                      If you want to start a new WG:

       There's a standard process

       Don't duplicate existing work

       Get names of advisor candidates from the NM-Area Director to
       sponsor the work

       You'll need to show community interest

       Resources are scarce: you'll need a chair, an editor, and an
       advisor

                          SNMPv2 Document Status

         o IESG hasn't voted on the documents yet.

         o MIBs using SNMPv2 SMI cannot progress to
           Draft Standard until the SNMPv2 SMI progresses
           to Draft status.

         o Continue to use the SNMPv2 SMI for writing MIB
           modules

           - Benefit: get to use the improvements to the SMI

           - Cost: large backlog of Draft candidates

                              SNMP Evolution

         o Current set of SNMPv2 documents includes non-
           security/administrative framework enhancements

         o No SNMPv2 WG consensus on network management
           security/framework solutions

         o Running code and rough consensus is the path forward

           - Expect individuals/groups to continue efforts &
             produce informational/experimental RFCs

           - Monitor external efforts to gauge progress
