Welcome screen

The LBA-Linux installer starts with a welcome screen. Here, you must provide the installer with two vital pieces of information, which will affect the rest of the installation process:

  1. Set the language of the installation.
  2. Select an installation task.

Setting the language of the installation

The LBA-Linux installer is available in the following languages:

Your very first task in the installation of LBA-Linux is to select one of these as your preferred language. All subsequent installation pages will appear in the language you choose on this screen.

To set the installer in your preferred language:

  1. Click on the combo box that appears below the words Select the language of the installation. A list of available languages appears.
  2. Click on the language you wish to use in the installer. The on-screen text will immediately change to your selected language.

If your installation media (CD-ROMs or DVD-ROM) has become damaged or corrupted, LBA-Linux may not install correctly. To test that all software packages on the installation media are as they should be, press the 'V' key.


Selecting an installation task

In addition to installing a brand-new copy of LBA-Linux, you can choose to Upgrade or Recover an existing installation. The Upgrade option is available if you have an older version of Fedora, Red Hat Linux, or SOT Linux installed on your computer (for specific version requirements, see the section Upgrading an existing GNU/Linux system.

The Recover option will be visible if you have an existing LBA-Linux installation.

The Install LBA-Linux option is always present.

Install LBA-Linux
Selecting this task will install a fresh copy of LBA-Linux on your computer.
Recover existing LBA-Linux Installation
Select this option to repair a malfunctioning LBA-Linux system. Important system files will be reinstalled from the original installation CD.
Upgrade an existing, compatible GNU/Linux installation
Compatible GNU/Linux systems can be upgraded to the current version of LBA-Linux. Select this option to upgrade an existing GNU/Linux installation.

To begin installing LBA-Linux:

  1. Click on the icon beside the Install LBA-Linux option. The radio button beside the icon will light up to confirm your selection.
  2. Click on the Next button at the lower right corner of the screen.

You must now create the hard drive partitions that will hold your new LBA-Linux system.
